Spore Cellar

Press kit

Grow a fungus farm in the dark.

Placement is everything.

Spore Cellar is an idle farming game about where you plant things. Every fungus has its own rule: moss speeds up whatever touches it, a Black Truffle only grows once it's buried on all four sides, and Glowcaps triple their output at night. Plant them in the right spots and the cellar grows spores on its own. When it's ready, you release the bloom, keep a permanent bonus, and start a bigger cellar.

How it plays

Tap, plant, ripen, release

You start with one Button Cap in a 3 × 3 cellar and a big mother cap to tap for spores. From there the game is a cycle you keep tightening.

  • Plant and arrange. Buy fungi from the spawn shelf and place them on the beds. Moving them is free, so you can keep rearranging for a better layout.
  • Ripen. Each level doubles a fungus's output and earns spore essence. Every level ripened also has a small chance to mutate it Albino, Azure or Golden.
  • Look after the cellar. Beetles crawl in and chew on your fungi: shoo them for a reward. Puffballs swell and burst for a big payout. A 3-minute day and night cycle changes what grows best.
  • Dig wider. The cellar grows from 3 × 3 up to 11 × 11, one ring of plots at a time.
  • Release the bloom. This resets the beds for a permanent bonus to everything. The bonus grows with every release.
  • Spend essence on the spore tree. Seven branches of permanent upgrades: growth, bigger cellars, mutation odds, pests, automation, taps, and holding to tap.

The demo

6 fungi, the whole loop

The free demo has the first 6 fungi, up to the Black Truffle, a cellar you can dig out to 5 × 5, and everything else in the loop: ripening, mutations, beetles, night and releases. Its spore tree has the inner 19 of the 44 upgrades, with the rest shown locked. Each fungus comes with a real fact about the mushroom it's based on.

Button Cap

Dependable. Grows anywhere.

Cellar Moss

Every fungus touching it grows 30% faster.

Mycelium Thread

Makes nothing. Ripen it to connect: up and down, then sideways, then diagonals. Fungi it reaches get a bonus for every thread in its network.

Puffball

Swells over 25s. Tap it to burst 40s of its output.

Glowcap

Triple output at night.

Black Truffle

Only grows buried: all four sides touching fungus or the wall.

Demo progress is saved separately and doesn't carry over to the full game. Players start a fresh cellar there.

Double output when no other Chanterelle shares its row or column.

Only grows at night. Glowcaps in the 8 plots around it, diagonals too, grow twice as fast.

Good moments to catch

  • The first buried truffle. Boxing in a Black Truffle on all four sides is the first real layout puzzle, and its output jumps once it's done.
  • Nightfall. The cellar turns blue, the music gets darker, and a bed of Glowcaps triples.
  • The first release. The beds reset, the mother cap grows a new form, and the spore tree opens.
  • A beetle. It chews on a fungus until you shoo it. Leave it too long and it may leave a blight behind.
  • A mutation. Rare, with its own sound. A Golden fungus makes three times the spores.
